Mobility Data Space
Mobility Data Space
The Federal Data Strategy is the German government’s vision for the innovative and responsible use of data in Germany and Europe. The Mobility Data Space has a central role to play in this.
It is a data marketplace on which mobility-sector partners can share data on the basis of equality and self-determination in order to enable innovative, environmentally friendly and user-friendly mobility concepts to be developed and enhanced.
The Mobility Data Space is vastly different to existing data marketplaces in terms of transparency, data protection standards, decentrality and rights of self-determination. In addition, it gives users access to unique opportunities to share in the potential for creating value from their data. Once established in the market, it will contribute to the economic and digital sovereignty of Germany and Europe.
To run the project long-term, acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering has transferred the project to operator DRM Datenraum Mobilität GmbH. In October 2021, representatives of the federal states as well as further private and public companies came on board as partners. Thus, the Mobility Data Space is being funded by stakeholders from all strands of mobility. acatech guarantees neutrality and independence.
„I want a Europe that blazes a trail with important key technologies. Take the mobility of the future. Data will play a decisive role – for autonomous driving, in the networking of different means of transport or in the intelligent control of traffic flows. That is why we need a uniform, cross-border European mobility data space as soon as possible. We have made a start in Germany with the Mobility Data Space. Let’s link it with the whole of Europe! It is open to everyone who wants to make a difference. In this way, we can become a global pioneer.“
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in his Speech on European policy, Charles University, Prague, 29 August 2022 (in German).
„The Mobility Data Space is a Data Sharing Community. Its potential lies in the alliance of companies that can contribute to mobility that is safe, environmentally friendly and user-friendly. The benefit to participants is that they retain the value created. There are no relevant third-party charges.“
Karl-Heinz Streibich, former acatech President
