Members
The content of our work is driven by outstanding scientists who are invited to become Members of the academy on the basis of their scientific achievements and reputation. They are drawn from the fields of engineering, the natural sciences, medicine, the humanities and the social sciences.
acatech currently has over 600 Members. They collaborate on projects with external experts from science and industry, as well as participating in the Academy’s topic networks, where technical issues relating to the technological sciences and more general technology policy questions are discussed.
Appointment of new Members
The General Assembly is responsible for inviting new Members to join the Academy. All of acatech’s Members are entitled to propose candidates by submitting a nomination to the Membership Committee. These must include the reasons for the nomination, a CV, an up-to-date list of publications and suggested referees.
The Membership Committee carefully checks all nominations and obtains references from acatech Members. The chair of the Membership Committee then presents a list of candidates to the Executive Board. Once candidates have been approved by the Executive Board, it proposes them to the General Assembly, which votes on whether to accept them as Members.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee is responsible for drawing up a list of candidates. The Committee is chaired by acatech President Jan Wörner, who was elected by the Members. In addition to the chair, it comprises four other acatech Members who are elected by the Executive Board for a maximum of two three-year terms.
