Together, acatech and ARENA2036 advance data-driven innovation
Munich, 25 January 2024
Research campus ARENA2036 welcomes acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering as a new member of the ecosystem. Together, the research campus and the Academy support comprehensive, cross-domain data use, which makes new business models, services and products possible and, at the same time, strengthens the sovereign use of data. The first fruit of the collaboration is the joint theme day on data spaces which takes place at the ARENA2036 campus in Stuttgart on 8 February 2024.
acatech’s joining the research campus ARENA2036 network sends a strong signal for the future. In the age of digitalisation, connectivity and the use of data play a key role in technological progress and the future security of Germany as a business location. acatech will now bring to the ARENA2036 ecosystem its expertise and excellent reputation in advising policymakers and society.
The aim is for a wide spectrum of stakeholders together to establish shared data spaces and data platforms, working together on the basis of equality.
Manfred Rauhmeier, acatech Managing Director: “ARENA2036 and acatech are innovation drivers. Both promote technology transfer by facilitating interdisciplinary and applied collaboration between science and industry. There is a great deal of overlap between acatech’s projects in the areas of data spaces, MISSION KI and mobility, and the topical emphases of ARENA2036’s projects. Together we intend to leverage this overlap to undertake future successful projects. We are delighted to join the network and look forward to the first fruits of the collaboration.”
Joint theme day on data spaces
The upcoming theme day “Data Dialogue: The benefits of data spaces in the cross-domain value chain” marks the start of the collaboration: it will take place on 8 February 2024 at the research campus ARENA2036 in Stuttgart-Vaihingen.
ARENA2036 founder and CEO Peter Froeschle stated: „Events such as the joint theme day epitomise the nature of the collaboration we foster at the research campus: personal, based on equality and with short lines of communication. We are pleased that acatech has joined our ecosystem, enabling us to drive forward our projects with the Academy’s wide-ranging expertise and large network. We can already tell from the variety of projects involved that the program areas “data spaces” and “artificial intelligence” will be hugely relevant, in particular looking ahead to our third funding phase.“
Organised by the acatech initiative MISSION KI, the transformation hub Transfer-X, ARENA2036 with the data space initiative ARENA-X and the Mobility Data Space (MDS), the focus will be on data use and data sharing via data spaces.
MISSION KI
Presented to the public in November 2023 at AI Conference in Mainz, the first pillar of the MISSION KI initiative is expanding the pool of data in order to facilitate quality-assured AI applications. One of the German government’s flagship projects in its digital strategy, MISSION KI is conducted by acatech and funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV).
Mobility Data Space
The data marketplace for the mobility sector Mobility Data Space (MDS) aims to establish a data infrastructure that unites companies, organisations and institutions from the mobility sector. It brings together providers of relevant data and solution providers who need these data in order to establish and run innovative mobility concepts. The Mobility Data Space is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and is a flagship project of the European cloud initiative Gaia-X.
