Securing the Future with AI – Approaches for Increased Resilience and Digital Sovereignty (Position paper)

The Corona pandemic is challenging our society and healthcare system and highlights the fragility of globally interconnected economies. At the same time, the crisis is accelerating the digital transformation and shows that data and Artificial Intelligence can make a significant contribution to crisis management and increased resilience of the economy and society. In a position paper, the members of the steering committee of the Plattform Lernende Systeme outline various design options to strengthen competitiveness in Germany and Europe with the help of AI and to better counter future crises. To this end, high-performance, secure (data) infrastructures, next-generation hybrid AI systems and trustworthy, certifiable AI solutions should be developed and made available. In addition, the development of AI competencies and the transfer of AI knowledge to research, teaching, the general public and companies should be further intensified. With AI, we can thus secure our future viability and our digital sovereignty.
