Framework Conditions for the Future of Materials. Analysis and recommendations

Materials have become an integral part of our lives and have far-reaching significance. All products – across all industries – depend on tailor-made innovative and classic materials. Although the technological potential of conventional materials is widely exhausted, their use is relevant for both existing and new applications. On the other hand, new materials enable new component functionalities and new business fields.
Due to the great relevance of classic and innovative materials – especially for the German industry – acatech has evaluated the regulatory framework, security of supply and sustainability for seven selected classes of materials and has derived policy recommendations for politics, science and society.
The basis of this acatech POSITION was a survey among associations and experts in the materials industries as well as a literature review of position papers, studies and reports from industry and research.
