acatech HORIZONS: Cyber Security
Why Cyber Security?
Why should we care about Cyber Security? Should private individuals and company employees pay any attention at all to this topic, or can they just leave it to their company’s IT experts? Does policymakers’ responsibility end with the establishment of cyber policies? And is it even worth trying to improve cyber security, or is the problem beyond our control?
The academy will address these questions in the upcoming acatech HORIZONS “Cyber Security” issue, which will be published in summer 2019.

Background
Connected digital technologies permeate every area of our lives. However, in order to make the most of their potential benefits, users must be confident about the security of these technological and social innovations. Cyber Security is thus not only key to achieving the digital transformation but is also a cornerstone of Germany’s and Europe’s technological leadership.
Due to the constantly growing threat posed by cyberattacks, targeted efforts in the field of Cyber Security must be strengthened in Germany and Europe in order to improve the current level of protection across all sectors of society.
The Cyber Security project group was established on 18 July 2018.
We have been talking about Cyber Security in Germany for many years, but there is still a lot of confusion among industry and the public. Are things not nearly as bad as they seem? Or is it just that we don’t know enough about the specific threats? Just how close to the abyss are we? I am delighted that acatech has decided to tackle these questions and provide clear, scientifically robust answers to them.
