Reinhard Ploss steps down as acatech President for personal reasons
Munich, 13 December 2022
Reinhard Ploss has resigned his post of co-President of acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering for personal reasons. In his message to the Executive Board and Office, he expressed his deep commitment to the Academy. His fellow President Jan Wörner remains in office.
Jan Wörner and Reinhard Ploss served as joint Presidents of the National Academy of Science and Engineering, representing the scientific members and the acatech Senate. Reinhard Ploss’s departure means that acatech must bid farewell to the President who was appointed to the Executive Board of the Academy by the acatech Senate companies.
Reinhard Ploss spoke of his resignation as follows: “It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to step down from my post of President. I saw the presidency as a mission, as acatech has much to contribute to the future of Germany and to its partners. Unfortunately, for family reasons, I can no longer adequately fulfil this mission, hence my decision to take this step. I remain deeply committed to the Academy and its mission.”
Jan Wörner thanked his co-President on behalf of the Academy for his voluntary role at acatech, “For years, Reinhard Ploss has actively supported, advanced and shaped acatech – as a member of the acatech Senate, as a member of the Executive Board and Management Board and finally as President of acatech. I will greatly miss our hugely rewarding working relationship, both on a professional level and on a human level, and respect the reasoning for the step he is taking today. I am glad that Reinhard Ploss will maintain tight ties with acatech, not least as a member of the acatech Senate.”
“The scientific members and the acatech Senate are the heart of the Academy. They are the people who enable acatech to provide its technically excellent and economically relevant advice. The two Presidents epitomise this, and Reinhard Ploss especially,” said acatech Managing Director Manfred Rauhmeier. “On behalf of the acatech Office, I thank Reinhard Ploss for his ground-breaking service to acatech.”
Reinhard Ploss became acatech President alongside Jan Wörner in March of this year. The Presidents are appointed by the acatech Executive Board. The Managing Director and the Presidents or the President, as the case may be, make up the Management Board of the Academy.
