PUNKT 2023 journalism prize: Enter the Digital and Foto categories now!

For 18 years acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering has been awarding the PUNKT for excellent journalism in the field of technology. This year the prize will be awarded in the Digital and Foto (photography) categories. In addition, the Academy is awarding a photography grant (this category is entitled Fotostipendium), the theme of which is “Build, Reside, Live”. The closing date for entry is 04 June. The prize money in each category is EUR 5,000.

The annual PUNKT prize for journalism and photography in the field of technology acknowledges first-rate contributions in the categories Text one year and Digital (formerly Multimedia) and Foto the next. The judges look for well researched, independent science and technology journalism that helps people to understand technological developments and enhances public discourse in science, innovation and technology.

In 2023 it is once again the turn of photography and digital formats. The judges place special emphasis on the original treatment of the subject of technology with content that is precise, aesthetic and can be understood by all. This year, the Digital category takes the place of the Multimedia category, the aim being to focus more on digital formats. Eligible for entry in the Digital category are formats that embrace new forms of digital journalism or combine different forms in exemplary fashion. Note that analogue formats and online journalism that simply “translate” traditional forms of journalism (text, image, video, audio) are not eligible.

In the Foto category up to three single images and/or one series of photos may be submitted. acatech is also giving a grant for a photo reportage on the theme “Build, Reside, Live”.

For over 15 years acatech has been awarding the PUNKT for excellent technology journalism. Each year, in alternation, the Academy awards the PUNKT to excellent texts or photo and multimedia work. In 2023, the PUNKT will be awarded in the categories Foto, Fotostipendium and Digital (formerly Multimedia). PUNKT 2024 will be awarded in the Text category.
