acatech member Prof. Dr. Matthias Jarke

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Professor Dr Matthias Jarke, former Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, on 21 March 2024.

Professor Jarke shaped Fraunhofer FIT over a period of 21 years, from 2000 until his retirement in 2021, with outstanding prudence and foresight.

As an acatech member, Professor Jarke accompanied the Culture Data Space project from the very beginning. His expertise in the field greatly enriched the project, and his accessibility and intelligent manner left an unforgettable mark.

It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to an outstanding scientist and mentor. The members of the Culture Data Space are with Professor Dr Matthias Jarke’s colleagues, friends and family in these difficult times.
