Munich, 08 December 2022

Since May 2022 acatech’s Human Resources Working Group has been holding a virtual #FutureWorkDebatte at regular intervals. The focus of the talks is the digital transformation of work. After five #FutureWorkDebatte debates, each of which had upwards of 100 virtual attendees, a team of authors under HR Working Group co-hosts and emcees Henning Kagermann and Frank Riemensperger have drawn their interim conclusions and outlined a new framework for the digital transformation.

In the interim report “Impulse zur Gestaltung der digitalen Transformation” (Impulses for shaping the digital transformation; report in German) published today, the Human Resources Working Group gives a sense of the content of the debates in the #FutureWorkDebatte thus far.

The report’s core message is that German industry needs a new framework for the digital transformation in order to drive it forward by consensus and at pace. A “Digital Culture”, which requires, for one, a high level of confidence in the motivation and self-management abilities of workers, is one of the keys to the success of this transformation.

In the report, the team of authors under the Human Resources Working Group co-hosts and emcees Henning Kagermann and Frank Riemensperger sketch the big picture for the future-oriented framing of the transformation and arrive at the following perspectives:

  1. The digital transformation is a key component of new competitiveness, resilience and collaboration between companies.
  2. For the digital transformation to succeed, new solution spaces are required.
  3. Flash points in the digital transformation must be resolved.
  4. CHROs will be the driver behind companies’ ability to change.
  5. “Digital Culture” will become central to the success of the digital transformation.
  6. Lifelong learning is one of the keys to frame the transformation.

The perspectives will be tabled and discussed in the #FutureWorkDebatte debate on 25 January 2023. Registration details for this and other debates can be found here.

About the Human Resources Working Group and the #FutureWorkDebatte

The acatech Human Resources Working Group brings together CHROs from leading technology and services companies as well as scientists to engage in constructive dialogue. The forum produces papers on the results of its work, thereby contributing to the debate on the digital transformation of work.

Another strand of its work, the #FutureWorkDebatte, was kick-started in summer 2022: in public virtual talks, experts from science, industry, politics and society discuss topical issues relating to the future of work and engage with the audience.

The aim of the talks is to develop, in collaboration with other stakeholders, possible solutions for shaping the digital transformation.
