How does a company make the transformation to a Smart Service provider? acatech gives a preview of a new maturity model
Munich, 16 March 2023
Intelligent products generate a multitude of data via the Internet of Things, creating an ideal basis for developing data-based and customer-oriented services, referred to as Smart Services. To give companies guidance on how to make the transformation to a Smart Service provider, acatech and partners are developing the acatech Maturity Index Smart Services. At the embedded world Conference on 15 March in Nuremberg, Project Manager Roman Dumitrescu gave a preview of the Index. The accompanying acatech Maturity Hub is now online. The full launch of the Index will take place on 30 March in Munich.
Manufacturing companies are sitting on a goldmine: The Internet of Things enables products to generate a wealth of data. There are many advantages to this for both manufacturers and consumers. By combining intelligent products, data-based services and customer-oriented value propositions, traditional manufacturers can offer Smart Services, and this presents a market opportunity. However, companies are not leveraging this potential sufficiently yet.
To address this, a project team led by acatech member Roman Dumitrescu, Director of the Product Development research unit at Fraunhofer IEM, has developed the acatech Maturity Index Smart Services. The maturity model, which follows the logic of the widely established acatech Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index, and which incorporates the experience gleaned from the acatech future projects Industrie 4.0 and Smart Service Welt, shows companies how they could and should position themselves within the Smart Service landscape. The Index also shows what measures they have to take to achieve this market positioning.
Smart Service Summit on 30 March
At the embedded world Conference on 15 March in Nuremberg Project Manager Roman Dumitrescu, along with Henning Kagermann (Chairman of the acatech Board of Trustees) and Martin Rabe (Fraunhofer IEM), gave a first impression of the logic behind, the concept of and the prospects for the model. They also announced the go-live of the acatech Maturity Hub Smart Services – the one-stop shop for the maturity model-based support for the Smart Service Transformation.
The full launch of the Index and Hub will take place on 30 March at the Smart Service Summit in Munich (Register here). During the event, companies themselves will be able to complete a tool-based quick assessment, an evaluation of the status of their own transformation and discuss it with the team of developers following the live analysis.
