Criticality of AI systems in their respective application context
The use of AI systems holds great potential benefits in many areas of our lives. At the same time, however, the application of some AI systems can also entail a certain risk. The aim is to bring trustworthy AI systems into use, while avoiding over-regulation and encouraging innovation. The European Commission therefore presented a proposal for the regulation of AI systems in April 2021.
Experts from the working groups IT Security, Privacy, Legal and Ethical Framework as well as Technological Enablers and Data Science of the Plattform Lernende Systeme discuss selected contents of the EU proposal in the white paper: namely, which criteria can be used to determine in which cases the use of AI systems should be regulated from the outset and when this is not necessary. The aim is to identify those AI systems which, against the background of their respective application context, require regulation to ensure security and trustworthiness.
