Research Council Industrie 4.0 elects Rainer Stark to the spokesperson team

The Research Council 4.0 elected Rainer Stark (TU Berlin) as deputy speaker science. Peter Liggesmeyer (Fraunhofer IESE) was confirmed as spokesperson science, Harald Schöning (Software AG) as spokesperson industry and Klaus Bauer (TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen SE +Co. KG) as deputy spokesperson industry. The team of spokespersons was unanimously elected for a three-year term at the last Research Council meeting on 17 June.

Rainer Stark brings extensive expertise to the Research Council Industrie 4.0’s speaker panel: his research focuses on industrial information technology, virtual product creation, digital twins, ASE (Advanced Systems Engineering) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) as well as data engineering and analytics. Professor Rainer Stark has been Head of the Department of Industrial Information Technology at Technische Universität Berlin since 2008. From 2008 to 2021, he was Director of the Virtual Product Creation business unit at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK). Stark is a member of the Scientific Society for Product Development (WiGeP), a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), an active member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) on the Research Council for product development and project management and a member of the board for research at prostep ivip e.V.

The new goals and the further development of Industrie 4.0 solutions of the future are fundamentally important for the transformation of Germany as an industrial location. I am therefore very much looking forward to the responsible work in the spokesperson team of the Research Council Industrie 4.0!

Rainer Stark has already made numerous valuable contributions to the work of the Research Council in the past. With his work at the interface of computer science and industrial production, he is a highly welcome addition to our team of spokespersons.

Gisela Lanza (wbk Institute for Production Technology at KIT) is leaving the spokesperson team at her own request but will remain a member of the Research Council Industrie 4.0. Peter Liggesmeyer (Fraunhofer IESE), spokesperson science of the Research Council Industrie 4.0, on behalf of all members of the Research Council, thanks the previous deputy spokesperson science for her commitment and valuable input.

The current 30 representatives from science and industry are demonstrating research-based solutions for the further development and implementation of Industrie 4.0. The topics of sustainability, resilience, interoperability, technological sovereignty and the central role of people are becoming increasingly important. The Research Council Industrie 4.0 coordinated by acatech advises the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Plattform Industrie 4.0 in particular.
