JAGFOE Premeeting at acatech: Young Researchers Prepare for Exchange in Japan

On September 3 and 4, 2025, young researchers met at the acatech premises in Munich for the premeeting of the Japan–Germany Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (JAGFOE). The purpose of the meeting was to prepare the participants for the upcoming symposium in Japan, which will take place in Tokyo in November under the motto “Advanced Materials and Systems for Sustainable Society.”

The first day focused on getting to know one another: participants shared their expectations for the symposium, exchanged experiences, and developed joint ideas. On the second day, the Japanese side provided an intensive course on Japanese culture as well as guidance on interactions in scientific and business contexts.

The premeeting brought together a committed, interdisciplinary group of young researchers, who are now entering the final preparations for the symposium. In Tokyo, 30 early-career researchers from Germany and Japan will convene to discuss the latest developments in materials and systems research and to build sustainable collaborations.

As a project partner and host of the premeeting, acatech is pleased with the successful kick-off, the support of young researchers, and the strengthening of German-Japanese cooperation within the framework of JAGFOE.
